Takeaway sushi packaging – Japanese cuisine specialities in Pakowanko containers

What is sushi?

Anyone who has not yet had the opportunity to taste sushi probably thinks that it is "raw fish with seaweed wrapped in a rice roll". Nothing could be further from the truth! In practice, we all know very well that sushi is definitely "something more". In addition to its aesthetic, colourful appearance, it also tastes delicious. Most importantly, it is one of the healthiest foods in the world, and also dietetic. The name "sushi" literally means "sour rice". This is because the main ingredient in Japanese cuisine is a variety of cooked rice seasoned with rice vinegar. This gives it a sour taste.

Sushi is eaten with wooden chopsticks or with your fingers. The way it is eaten is very simple. After dipping a piece in the sauce, you put it whole in your mouth.

In addition, along with the sushi pieces we order, we receive a set of spicy wasabi horseradish and pickled ginger. These flavours are intended to cleanse our taste buds. This allows us to taste the ingredients of the next portions of sushi.

It is important to remember that wasabi and ginger should be consumed in small amounts.

Types of sushi

Nigiri – this is the most popular type of sushi. Portions of rice are formed by hand and topped with a piece of fish, squid, octopus, shrimp or Japanese omelette. A thin layer of wasabi can be added to enhance the flavour.

Maki sushi – in Japanese, maki means rolling. This type of sushi consists of a roll of rice with additional ingredients. The roll is wrapped in pressed nori seaweed and then cut into pieces. The filling can be fish, seafood and vegetables. A bamboo mat is used for rolling.

Maki is divided into:

  • Hosomaki
  • Kappa maki
  • Futomaki
  • Uramaki
  • Date maki
  • Tempura maki
  • Gunkan maki
  • Temaki
  • Kaburamaki
  • Oyakomaki

Sashimi – "Sashimi" in Japanese means raw product. In this type of sushi, we serve one or more types of raw fish with Japanese vegetables, wasabi and soy sauce.

Is sushi healthy?

Why are Japanese people not overweight? Sushi is a low-calorie dish. It also has less fat than other foods. In addition, it has high nutritional value, such as the fatty acids found in fish. Rice, which is the basis of the dish, is a source of complex carbohydrates, high protein content with low fat content, B vitamins and many minerals. Fish also contains vitamins B, A, C, D and E.

Sushi prevents diseases such as stroke and heart attack. Sushi is also an excellent addition to any diet.
