Practical takeaway containers made of sugar cane
Ground sugar cane is the basic material used in our containers and packaging. Sometimes referred to as paper pulp or bagasse, it is ground sugar cane fibre (a waste product from the sugar production process) compressed under high pressure with the addition of water. There are various modifications of sugar cane packaging available on the market, so we suggest that you familiarise yourself with the product before purchasing it to ensure that the material used is not subject to the SUP consumer fee.
Takeaway packaging
The presented sugar cane packaging products are eco-friendly replacements required by law from 1 July 2024. The alternative is to use fully compostable materials that decompose in home composters. In other words, used packaging can be destroyed and used as fertiliser for various types of flowers.
The sizes of the containers are classic equivalents of polystyrene packaging, which is already banned by law, and include single-compartment square and rectangular (half-lunch) containers, as well as single, double and triple-compartment containers. The sizes of the takeaway containers and packaging are so versatile that every catering establishment will find something to suit their needs.

Where should takeaway packaging be disposed of?
Sugar cane containers and packaging can be disposed of in a bin marked BIO, or simply in a home compost bin. These products do not contain plastic or other modifiers, so there is no need to dispose of them in a bin marked for mixed or plastic products.
Should BDO and SUP product fees be added for sugarcane packaging?
BDO fees must be paid for products in this category, but SUP consumer fees do not apply.
Is sugarcane takeaway packaging a legally required alternative from 1 July 2024?
Yes, sugarcane takeaway packaging is an alternative to plastic packaging, which will be required by law from 1 July 2024.
Are takeaway containers an alternative to polystyrene menu boxes?
